Message from the High Commissioner

Welcome to the website of the High Commission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Nairobi, Kenya and concurrently accredited to the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Uganda. We are delighted to be of assistance to you to learn more about the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and about the activities of our Embassy. Bangladesh is open for business, trade and commerce and continues to offer huge opportunities to those looking forward to invest in an emerging but ever advancing market with a dynamic and growing economy, political stability and consolidating democracy. In addition, the country has a rich repertoire of intellectual, historic and cultural traditions and heritage and vibrant life which attract tourists from around the world.

At this important juncture of our country’s history, our Mission is to pursue, engage, develop and sustain strategic partnership among Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and to foster relationships that will bring closer together the people of these countries for the mutual benefits. Presumably, this website will give all stakeholders, participants and visitors in-depth insight into our country and the activities that our Embassy is undertaking to strengthen our partnership towards that strategic objective.

As we continue to be a bridge in the successful process of expanding and deepening our ties with the Republic of Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Uganda, we hope that this website will give each individuals, officials, relevant authorities, agencies, organizations, quick plethora of information, data and service on economy, culture and traditions, travel, history and beyond.

I consider myself extremely lucky to be the Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as it is a joy as well as my duty to develop a win-win relationship amongst these countries for the wellbeing of our people and the respective countries. I also encourage all to explore and utilize this website and not to hesitate to contact us for any questions, queries, opinions, suggestions or comments regarding any issues.

Brief Biography of the High Comissioner

Ambassador, Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Humayun Kabir,  SUP, ndu, psc was born on 25 December 1960 in a reputable Muslim family at Serajdhikhan of Munshigonj, Bangladesh.

He completed his Bachelor of Science from Chittagong University, Master of Defense Studies from National University of Bangladesh, MBA from Trinity University and College, Delaware, USA and MS from National Defense University of USA.  He is also a graduate of Defense Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, Bangladesh. He is a fellow of both National Defense University, USA and National Defense College of Bangladesh.

Ambassador Humayun Kabir had a distinguished career in Bangladesh Army before his appointment as the Ambassador to Kenya. He earned his commission in Bangladesh Army on 21 December 1980 topping the list of his course in Bangladesh Military Academy. Accordingly, he was awarded ‘CAS’s Caine’ for his outstanding performance in the Academy. In his long colorful career, Ambassador Humayun Kabir served with distinction in different command, staff and instructional positions. He commanded two infantry divisions, one infantry brigade, one infantry battalion in army. He also commanded a Sector and a battalion in Border Guards of Bangladesh (a paramilitary force). He served as the Chief of Doctrine in Army Training and Doctrine Command, General Staff Officer First Grade in Army Headquarters.

Ambassador Humayun Kabir rendered his service to the UN as Chief Operation Officer of UN Peace Keeping Mission in Mozambique. He also served as the Military Secretary to the Hon’ble President. Later he joined as the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professional and as the Chairman of Shena Kalyan Sangstha befor joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. He attended number of seminars, symposium and workshops and presented number of papers.

Ambassador Humayun Kabir is a widely-traveled person and visited many countries of Asia, Europe, Africa and USA including Hawaii. He had number of publications in renowned Journals and Dailies. In his family life, Ambassador Humayun Kabir is happily married and blessed with a son and a daughter. He likes to read and conduct research on topics of wide interests, he also plays golf and listens to music in his leisure times.
